A new series featuring letters of the alphabet with a floral theme. These sets of 3 letters were a delight to design. .The bottom 2 rows are specialty stitches - one row is Blackwork and the other is a mixed row of stitches together creating a pattern. As per JDD usual- offering some great diagrams for being able to stitch it.
Correction: To center the 2 rows of specialty stitch, move one thread to the left of the left side border. This will give you the rows in the middle rather than one graph box too much on the right side.
On the top row of the piece, one of the flowers symbol is incorrect. It is the 4 set of 3 flower heads from the right, it should be the mid blue colour -the = symbol for 5384.
Thinking of stitching them all? Click here for a colour list for the entire series, coordinated symbols and colours are used from A-Z in this series.

The words on this piece remind me of what many people in the UK say for Christmas wishes and it seemed to suit the little birds on this piece. The little chickadees and sparrows are a noisy bunch in my cedar tree in the back yard, it is like a birdie condo, they are busy all year around! Enjoy this sweet piece and know I have a few more “Happy”charts in the works.

Design Count: the whole piece is 191 x 191, just the section of summer is 93 x 93
Design Size: approx. 10 ½ x 10 ½” for fully finished piece
This sampler is designed for linen or other even fabrics.
Summer is the first part in a 4-part seasonal set of ‘In the Garden’ patterns, that creates a large approx. 11 x 11 Sampler. Be sure to collect all 4! They may be done singly if you like, but of course the vision was for the 4 to be a set. Summer is the top left-hand corner.
Little clarifications for Summer in the Garden:
On the top vine, the symbol on the far right the forwards arrow, and then on the far middle right of the sunflower - both should be a star symbol for Sunflower.
Stone Moss symbol in the vine is correct, you will receive it with Spring. I probably should have included it, but it seemed like it was doubling when you will get a yard of it for then.
On page 1 the arrows for the left side border- top diagram shows arrows one way to the right the bottom one shows the arrows to the left -either way is correct, it is just that you need to stitch the 2 of them together, the over 2 and ‘hump’ parts. This gives you the movement of colour in how you see it on the piece.

Message: So I will be stitching this series and wanted to do it all on one piece of fabric. What would the design size be for all of them?
Answer:Cool, that makes me excited… okay, let’s work it out.. how much space do you want between pieces.
There will be 8 – so I am suspecting 2 x 4?
The pieces each are: 85 x 106 each
With what an inch between pieces? I am not sure how much one would want for the spacing, I haven’t thought that through. I’ll figure it out for an inch between, if we have a little extra that’s better than not enough, maybe ½” is enough, I would have to see it frankly.
Then we are dependant then on what count fabric… 36 ct divide by 18 and 40 ct divide by 20 – there adding 18 or 20 graph boxes to the 106 x 3 spaces between pieces length and 18 or 20 graph boxes to the x 1 space between pieces side.
Let’s pretend 40 ct for our number – so 106 x 4 +60 on the side that you put the 4 pieces – in this case it is the length
And 85 x 2 +20 on the side you put 2 pieces -this is side to side if we do 2 x 4
Therefore you have 484 x 190
So the count would be 2 pieces across by 4 pieces down – making the fabric minimum size 9.5 x 24.2 on 40 ct + 6” all around so the fabric cut on 40 ct would be 15.5 x 30.2” – does that make sense to you?
We’d have to divide the 190 x 484 by 18 for 36 ct-making that one 10.5 x 26.8 + 6” all around = 16.5 x 33” fabric cut.
But if you were to lay it out 4 wide by 2 deep, it would be opposite to lay the fabric out for stitching - does that help, or make you feel confused?

Soon it will be garden time and so we have another in the set of boxed pieces that fit in the shadow boxes like Christmas Box and Stitch Box. There are no specialty stitches in this pattern. Design size is a 3 ½ x 4 on 32 ct. for the left sampler square with 2 smalls on the side and one long one on the bottom, which holds the ruler on the back. The theme this time is Garden, long overdue. It was stitched with hand dyed cottons, so there is no embellishment package, but there is a wool packet that has the small pieces of wool for backing, the ruler, the pins from puntinipuntini, buttons for the biscornu, like a little finishing packet. Each item is like a needle tool small and on the back holds things like scissors or needles or a ruler in the theme of the box. The template for this one is in the chart. The shadow box is available from Cabranmary Woods (Item number JDD4BayB), I will have a limited amount at Nashville, if you want to pick one up then, no problem.

This pattern was stitched on 36 ct Dead Sea Scroll by Seraphim Fabrics. Design Size: 7 ¾” x 7 ¾” and Design Count: 140 x 140. This piece was stitched with silk threads, introducing the stitcher also to some Silk Lame by Rainbow Gallery. There is an embellishment package available with the colours used in the model. This piece has a corner gauge available with the imprint of the four houses on one side and measurements on the other. Fun little accessory by Cabranmary Woods.
Correction: If you have the thread pack the Rainbow Gallery - Silk Lame SP27 is used for the hearts, flower centres on bottom left hand house and flowers in border.
This pattern was stitched on 40 ct. Old Stationary by Seraphim Fabrics. This piece is part of a greater series, the first being Joy Be Thine, now this one and one still in teaching circulation Stitches Be Sweet, there will be another teaching piece in this set called Count Be Correct with a short saying with it like the others. Design Size 8 x 9 ¾” on 40 ct Design Count 163 x195.
The pattern had so much to work with that I built some smalls to go with it. A Needle Pocket, a tufted pincushion and a double-sided slider fob, which has 2 different sides on it. The pattern includes these pieces, and the embellishment package includes all the threads necessary to stitch both the sampler and the smalls.

I am delighted to share this antique with you. It is from 1840 of Dutch origin. The sampler had lots of great motifs and I loved the top rows of crowns and shields, but the composition did not please me, it had large blank spots on it. I saw this piece as more enjoyable in the vertical format as like a band sampler with the bottom coming to a point. It is framed in the photo but would look equally wonderful with a hem stitched edge. Design Size 7 5/8” x 19 1/3” Design Count is 157 x 387. Stitched on 40 ct Hogbristle by Fox & Rabbit. It uses Soie d’alger silk threads from Access Commodities with no thread pack.
2023 DESIGNS
The box top, smalls and sampler were stitched on 32 ct. We have gone from commonly used 32ct fabric in 2018 to 36 or 40 or higher here in 2023 as the silk threads have better coverage and we like the finished look, but this one still has 32 count. The smalls include: 2 scissors fobs - you can choose which one you would like, or do both, scissors pocket, needlebook, pincushion, cube, and sampler. All finishing instructions included in chart. The cut linen size we used was 21 x 27 and I will put a layout here.
As an FYI- For the sampler box top -to fit the space it needs to be on 32ct unless you adjust and make another border or some such thing. On the cube it has a whole side that is over one, that also becomes more difficult on a higher count.
Cabranmary Woods built a new box for this piece. We had used a Lone Elm Lane box previously but since LEL has been unable to continue to make them CW has kindly helped. I appreciate that CW stepped in and made a very lovely replacement. Please get your Local Needlework shop to order a MSB box from Cabranmary Woods.

This next set of 3 samplers are JDD’s sampler adaptations on these antique pieces in my collection. I hope that you enjoy the JDD full reproduction and the adaptations that were composed. As you know I love samplers but have never delved into reproducing them. This past year I finally had a good look at the samplers I own and decided that I could attempt this.
This reproduction was stitched on 40 ct Vintage Meadow Rue by Lakeside Linens on this count the design size is 9 ½” x 12 ¼”. There are several adaptations to this sampler which are just as lovely. A pincushion and two small, framed pieces, they will be in colour on the back cover. They were all stitched in the Soie d’Alger silks, no thread pack was made. There is a DMC conversion in the chart.
This reproduction was stitched on 40 ct Vintage Fawn by Lakeside Linens and on this count – design size is 4” x 13”. I adapted this one to be long and thinner and love it this way. This sampler was stitched in the Soie d’Alger silks, no thread pack was made. There is a DMC conversion in the chart. There was no year on the antique sampler.
This reproduction was stitched on 40 ct Old Linen by JUDesigns or Winter Wren by Fox & Rabbit is a great match. On this count the sampler is 7 ¼” x 6”. The fob is 2 ¼” x 4”. I ran out of time, but I would have liked to stitch the piece again and made the adaptation of the sampler into a drum and then a nice pair with the fob. I would like to think it would make a lovely set, as I loved the way the fob turned out. This sampler was stitched in the Soie d’Alger silks with 2 threads from Dinky Dyes, no thread pack was made. There is a DMC conversion in the chart.

This piece was stitched on 2 different fabrics. Both on 40 ct one on Zweigart Natural and one on Fawn by Picture this Plus. One uses the format of the others in the Vintage Series with an alphabet in it the other I put in a lovely row of specialty stitches - some choices for options for the discerning stitcher. Within a few stitches of each other, the pieces are much the same size as the other.
The design size on this count 7” x 7 ¾”. This is all in the Vintage Series started long ago and which I have been adding to. It was stitched in a variety of silk threads from several companies, but has a DMC conversion in the pattern. There is no thread pack available.

Christmas in Europe is the theme for this new instalment in the Shadow Box series. In many of the Christmas markets there were beautifully decorated huge trees in the market square to enjoy. And the lovely markets in many different cities always had a gnome or two for sale. Many of church interiors had beautiful advent wreaths for display. So these were my choices to display in the shadow box.

How we who cross stitch love to hold ‘Matter in Hand’, whether it is literally in hand, in hoop or stretcher bars. We love our needle in one hand and our linen in the other. This led to the naming of this pattern as the theme is celebrating needlework. It follows in the manner of Christmas Sampler and Halloween Sampler; it has the words for cross stitch in different languages. French, Spanish, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Chinese and Russian. I hope my research didn’t steer me wrong with translation. Forgive me if I have not. I find that needlework crosses all language barriers for sure.
A piece of fabric 13 x 13 will give you at least 2’ around and 1’ between items on 40 ct. R & R Reproductions – Winter Brew.

This little charmer came to me stitching this past year. I was thankful to be doing something I loved and I laughed when I thought to myself "I'm doing it a lot". And thus this fun pattern was born.
Finish into a tray for stitching use or whatever way you love to finish.
The graph image shows an alternate way to stitch the word a lot. This was meant to exaggerate the word “ a lot” in urban dictionary lingo, hence the old spelling of “alot”. Feel free to stitch this pattern with either spelling.

My favourite kind of useful pincushion, I love the long shape as I can fit my needles all in a row with preloaded threads for stitching. This chart includes the micro mini buttons and a length of The Thread Gatherer Acorn Woods silk, but not the cotton floss used.
36 ct vintage Country Mocha 57 x 133 for the large pineapple drum and 43 x 55 for fob
Needing a pineapple themed piece this spring for a special event I thought a drum would be a fun idea, but one never quite knows where a theme will lead and in the end I came out with a mini long shaped drum which suited a fob perfectly and a larger drum more like a stand which became the scissors holder.
Any neutral coloured fabric -I used Flax 40 ct - 57 x 63
A fun play on angles and removing threads to get another design within the design.
65 x 69 on any neutral coloured fabric - I used 40 ct Flax
This whole pattern is completely filled in, in the blue and white of #19 we created pattern by removing some stitches in this pattern is filled in to create a fuller look
This month always depicts the new fresh start with the signs of the new life in spring. A great reminder to always be kind ot others with ‘Kindness speaks”.
Not always but Easter often comes in this month and the the message of Easter couldn’t be better said than “ Live Peaceably”.
Forgive my spelling error, through many many people seeing this over and over and of course myself included, I did not see the error in “Peaceably”. Attached is the correction. My sincere apologies.
Mother’s Day is celebrated in this month and as a mother’s love is what all children need despite their age it seemed that “Love Gains” was an appropriate fit.

When doing a retreat in Cape Cod one must do something for the Cape- I couldn’t decide what I liked best about the Cape so I did my 3 favourites, the water and boats, the cape cod stylized houses & the cranberry bogs and autumn! Each piece is approx 3 x 5 - I found the stand up frames at Michaels.

We will continue to carry the Vimy ridge Sampler. Vimy Ridge a sampler commemorating the battle in France that has become the symbol of Canadian national achievement and sacrifice. Next year is 100 years on April 9 that this occurred and a stitcher- Lorraine Clark asked if I would do something to commemorate it. And thus we have the Vimy Ridge Sampler. It has in the usual JDD style, some words on why I used what I did in the rows and of course the stitch diagrams for the stitches. There is a silk embellishment pack available.

A fun round little pincushion stitched in wool threads giving it a slightly raised look and feel - stitched on 32 ct and fits a Lone Elm Lane Pincushion round frame. For fun I stitched the middle over 1 on 40 ct to give you the very tiny scissors fob you see.

Celebrating a special moment, a special birthday or want to commemorate an event? This pattern is in honour of Jeannette reaching a special birthday this year. "A Banner Occasion" says it all, whether it is a birthday as in Jeannette's case or some other milestone, it would be lovely to stitch. It is6 x 6 1/2" on 32 ct Light Examplar by Lakeside Linens. The pattern has the special Poppy Thread from Australia's Cottage Garden ThreadCo. included in the chart and the Kelmscottand tiny Micro buttons used in the piece. The other threads used are Gentle Art and Weeks Dye Works cottons.
Sometimes a little set of smalls comes out of a bigger sampler mostly because you enjoy them so much you want to rework them a bit and have a nice little set of matching accessories to the bigger sampler and this was what happened with the English Beauty last year. Creating "ABC pyn Pillow and Bargello Sheep Needlekeep" was a natural and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have. It is on 32ct Lt Mocha Zweigartfabric but can be done on any neutral fabric. There are 3 pieces to this set: a Needlebook with an insert to it, making a removable pincushion and a large long rectangle shaped pyn roll that can have quite a few uses. A cut piece of fabric of 13 x15 will generously stitch all the pieces. There is a silk thread pack and separately there isa finishing pack with the wool and other items to finish as you see in the photo.
I love typefaces and playing with fonts. I love the way are the same but diverse and the different feel each font gives you. So I combined my love of typefaces with my love of samplers and stitching to create the "ABC Sampler". It isa large sampler with the 'abc' cross stitched and then 3 bands of lovely specialty stitches grouped into 3 types of smaller samplers. One focuses on just the specialty stitches in the needlepoint group, then blackwork is the focus and lastly is the motif type sampler. It is stitched on a neutral fabric on several different counts, whether you like 32 ct or 35,36 all will look equally well, as well as 40 ct. It uses silk threads and the design size is 8 x 131/3".
78 x 78 round This lovely Shaker box top has acorns for the theme. It uses some Simply Wool threads from the Gentle Art. The threads are a little thicker than floss and they give great dimension to the stitching. Any neutral fabric will do.
Since ancient times birds have been connected with the sky and having a super natural link between heaven and earth. We seem to be so enchanted with birds! We love birds on samplers and small pin cushions orscissors fobs. They are a joy to stitch. In this chart you will meld your abilities to stitch and do some finishing as these parts all fit into a box created for the sampler and the smalls called a 'shadow box' and in this case I am calling it "Bird Box" . It is comprised of a sampler about 4 x 6 and then 3 small squares under 2 x2" which create a biscornu, a needlekeep and a scissors pocket on the back to fit into the tray. It uses 32 ct Butter Pecan by Lakeside Linens.

A little fun chart for you to enjoy is 'Gather Friends' - a collaboration chart by Paulette Stewart of Plum Street Samplers and Jeannette Douglas. It is a little pincushion finished in 2 ways - your choice of doing a double sided oneor doing 2 pincushions with a pattern on each. Each little pattern is a 2 1/2" square for you to enjoy.
This sampler was built upon request from a husband of a dearly departed JDD stitch fan. She was a lovely amazing women and I was thrilled to do something in memory of her. You could personalize this for a memorial sampler for a loved one of your own.

Each Sampler is approx. 6 x 6- and as a great whole creates a little over 12 x12. It is stitched on 32 ct Meadow Mist by Zweigart's Silkweaver fabric.

The pattern is called 'Vintage Flowers" and is stitched on Natural fabric with Gentle Art and Weeks Dye Works cottons. The design size is 8 1/8 x 8 3/4" on 36 ct fabric.

As always, great diagrams of the stitches and a thread/bead pack is available for each pattern separately.
I have a thing for pincushions as you know! So when I saw the formed shapes that Lone Elm Lane has done, I was thrilled and wanted to make one in every colour!! This may be a beginning. This piece uses silk threads, a new colour by Gloriana Threads called Falcon Brown which was just up my alley. My other favourite is Bargello, so I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did, it was very relaxing and I could have kept going and made a huge pincushion!! The design size is 84 x 84 and done on 35 ct R & R Reproductions fabric. The size of the pincushion itself is a 4" diameter, I put quite a bit of stuffing in it to 'poof' it up a bit and not be flat, I liked the look for this design.
32ct Light Mocha by Zweigart - Design size on 32 ct -10 x 12 1/4"
This charming English treat will be a delight for the more seasoned stitcher. With many little English type flourishes it is sure to peak your interest. 32 ct Natural Linen by Wichelt Designs Size works out to 21/2 x 21/2"on 32 ct.
A little charmer. A match to the Key to Home piece in thatthis could be framed as shown or made into the little pin cushion that fits in the box of the Lone Elm Lane box. There are some cool keys to add to your fob! This was a Nashville Special and available only to shops at the show.
36 ct Maritime White by Lakeside Linens Design size is 5 1/8 x 5 1/8"
This fits beautifully into the Lone Elm Lane Queen Crown Box - I used Black shown here but certainly she has other colours and you could use one that suited your colours and do the stitching to match. I put my house number on the piece and will have it the front door with keys in it to display! There is a thread pack available with the grey palette. It is the 6 x6 box.
There is a typo on the beads, they should read 03008 Pewter - not 03003.
This Patriotic Canadian themed sampler is stitched on 32 ct Lakeside Linen Lentil – but can certainly be done on your favouritefabric and count. I would love to see it on 40ct!! It uses Gloriana Threads, The Thread Gatherer, Splendor and Needlepoint Inc silks with a little pinecone button from JABCO. There are a variety of stitches besides cross stitch – for example the border leaves are done in a leaf stitch throughout. There are trees, animals and a pair of hockey sticks with puck to get you in the True North feel.

For this piece the theme was " Over the River and Through the Woods" - it was a great theme and as you know got to use some of my favourite colours. Once I had completed the main sampler I thought as a grandmother one may like to put the grandchildren on the piece as a great little way to include family on a stitched piece. Therefore the instructions will read for both pieces.

This piece uses mainly the Milanese stitch in a variety of ways. There are other specialty stitches but mostly it was the Milanese that I reconfigured different ways for a pleasing look. It is all stitched in silk threads and the embellishment package has the cute little buttons in the package.
This is approx 3 x 3 1/2" on 36 ct - but can certainly be done on any count fabric. This includes the silk needed to stitch and the wool felt backing to match.

This piece can either be framed or put in the box from Lone Elm Lane (6 x 6 opening size). Always a pleasure to have our favourite things on a piece of needlework. The pattern is done in 2 colourways and a thread package can be purchased in either Colourway - Colourway # 1 is the purple and teal ( in the box) and Colourway #2 is the Blue and Green(framed piece). The charms are included in the thread package.
This year was a pumpkin year, I designed a few things with pumpkins and so I had to do a pincushion too! The design size is 69 x 69 on 35 ct. WDW Parchmentand uses The Gentle Art and Weeks Dye Works threads. It is all cross stitched and no specialty stitches used. The size of the pincushion itself is a 4" diameter, I put quite a bit of stuffing in it to 'poof' it up a bit and not be flat, I liked the look for this design.
This piece was stitched on 36 ct Zweigart Flax using my usual suspects in the silk thread lines. You may choose to do this series on the same fabric for all four or change it up.... have fun and just know ... I don’t usually do pink but all four of these pieces has pink of some sort in it!! This piece is in a four part seasonal series that startedwith ‘The Spring Bird’.
This is the piece that has started a lovely little seasonal set in a popular4 x 4" format on 32 ct or 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" on 36 ct. This the spring portion and will be a good little SAL for your group. Each season will be released separately and look for Summer, Autumn and Winter to come this year. The stitch count on all 4 pieces is 63 x 63 and they were stitched on 36ct. Flax. A variety of specialty stitches will be used on each piece but built around the cross stitch - giving a good beginners look into the world of specialty stitches. As always, great diagrams of the stitches and a thread/bead pack is available for each pattern separately. A Most Suitable Name Series. This series came to be as in my travels I had met a very dynamic needlework woman with whom I became fast friends. We decided that we were most suitable friends. And although I wanted it to read a most suitable friend somehow this title for a whole series came out! In Button Betty again no real name associated with it, other than it is such a fun 'older' style name and it went so well with the word button! Collect all 8.
36ct. linen. This is my continued enjoyment of designing in a more primitive style and using only cross stitch stitches. A definite derivative for me. But fun and I love alliterations and so the name game was on for me, had fun doing the 'words'. I worked with a lovely lady named Dorothy for years who was such a devoted mom that her name and devoted just worked together.

This charming sampler is on 32 ct. almost all stitched in Wool. It gives the piece a nice Christmasy cozy feel. There are some specialty stitches with excellent diagrams but still some nice cross stitch to balance the piece. The rows are short and this makes it turn into a rather quick stitch. The Gloriana Threads - Lorikeet Wool is 9 stranded - you stitch with 1 ply and the Gentle Art Simply Wool use as it comes. The embellishment package for this has been discontinued, but there is a DMC conversion - click here. This document includes DMC conversion for both Stocking Bag and Be Jolly Needleroll.

32 ct. Linen- I have always been enchanted by the thought of little acorn people living in a little acorn, so I just had to do a little house as I would imagine they could live in! This has a Hallowe'en theme.
32 ct linen. A charming little acorn sampler with a highlight on some specialty stitched white acorns - these are done in padded satin stitch, leaf and Mosaic stitch top; Boxed Hungarian stitch with Trellis stitched acorn top. It turned out lovely in the little frame but a handy little pocket finish made it into an e-reader bag. There is an embellishment Package available.
-32 ct. linen. This little acorn set has some great little accessories in it with the acorn/fall feel. The long pincushion has 2 different fabrics attached to each other, and the seam is covered with a strip of banding. This seemed to mesh the 2 fabrics together rather nicely. The little needlebook shown with the page open on the bottom of the front cover, as a scissors pocket and a felt needle page for needles. The scissors were the premie size. I used a different closure this time just for a change but certainly rope or ribbon could be used. The Needlerool scissors fob was certainly a challenge to stitch but I love how it turned out and with anice long twisted cord to the scissors it will also work out well as a needle or pin keep while stitching. You will notice the wood acorns on the page- My wood guy Wray Parsons on Vancouver Island already had the acorn tape measure and the acorn thimble holder in his building repertoire, but I asked him to build some charms... aren't they so cute... and a needle holder for us and those items are also on the front cover. These are available from JDD and shops may order direct from Wray - or order from JDD.
35 x 47 on 32ct Flax - the threads and buttons are included in the pattern.
All 6 gift tags are a great small stitch for a present for a friend, to accompany your gift of homemade jam, or a thank you for something they have done for you, for a love sentiment to someone you care about.
This is a deviation for me, but I did so enjoy doing it and hangs nicely on my mantle at Christmas. The theads are Duchess Silk - a Gloriana Threads take on Perle Cotton and a Perle Cotton form Classic Colorworks using 18ct Tula.
92 x 198 on 32 ct lambswool.
An American themed Patriotic piece sporting the Red White and Blue silk threads. A lovely sentiment and it is cross stitched but much of the sampler is in specialty stitches which gives it the charm you see. the chart has some good diagrams for you to be able to complete the stitches.

A long pincushion built out of the fun I had with Patriotic Sampler. Approx. 2 x 5” on Natural 32ct linen. A sweet little scissors fob accompanies this piece and on the front of the pincushion is a scissors pocket to hold your patriotic scissors!
The Common Thread 1 had so many different parts to it, that it lent itself well to reconfiguration of some of the parts into a 3 fold needlebook. It uses the beautiful, bargello, blackwork and whitework to make up the trifold and inside it has a needle page, a scissors pocket and a tiny pincushion all made of Wool Felt fabric. Once folded it can be easily carried and used at your retreat, as it holds your necessities.

A Most Suitable Name Series. This series came to be as in my travels I had met a very dynamic needlework woman with whom I became fast friends. We decided that we were most suitable friends. And although I wanted it to read a most suitable friend somehow this title for a whole series came out! It began in this pattern with Alphabet Annie and I had Ann Robbins from Dyeing to Stitch in my head as Pat and Ann were so instrumental in gaining me confidence in my designing and their love primitive patterns. Collect all 8.

A Most Suitable Name Series. This series came to be as in my travels I had met a very dynamic needlework woman with whom I became fast friends. We decided that we were most suitable friends. And although I wanted it to read a most suitable friend somehow this title for a whole series came out! I am named after my grandmother on my father's side. She was called Janna Metje. When my parents immigrated they thankfully Canadianized that name to Jeannette, but at home I was always called Nettie and my sisters and childhood friends still call me that. She was born in 1898. Add your ancestry to this piece for your enjoyment. Collect all 8.

A sweet little ocean themed needlebook, that was built out of 2 smalls like the Garden Secrets series size. I then added some fish shaped felt pages for needles and added a sand dollar needle threader by Just Another Button Co. with some velcro tape, to be easily taken off and used again. The kit comes with the cotton overdyed threads, fish button and fresh water pearl for his eye and the felt pages- template to cut your own fish.

41 x 339 A little note on the title -Isle of Hope - Isle of Tears - Ellis Island. In doing research for this piece I came upon many interesting things but mostly I was charmed by the whole Immigration thing as my parents immigrated to Canada via Halifax Harbour, NS and traveled across the country by train to land in a very rural area of Alberta. When I was but 8 weeks old my parents moved to southern Ontario as my mom couldn't bear the very long cold winters on the prairies coming from a much milder climate. Enjoy stitching your little stack of blankets! This piece has an embellishment package available with all the silks, beads, and Bijoux needed to do the piece.

If you have never used the Gentle Art Simply Wool here is a great pattern to use it with. I love the soft antique look of the wool and felt the French number sampler would work for it. I am charmed by No. signs, they just speak of a time long ago before lit up numbers of now. although I did it in wool it can certainly be done in any threads at all. Stitchers have stitched it in greens, blues, in overdyed colours and the like. Many have personalized the piece using numbers that are meaningful to them. whether it is a house number or birth dates it is a nice reminder of how numbers live in our lives.
There is a button pack available with the buttons and key used in the piece. Certainly any little buttons that you have would be fine.
Fabric : 32 ct Natural
The 7 pillows are all varying sizes. They were stitched on 32 ct. Antique White, but just as easily could use red threads which is a great classic colour, or a thread that matches in your colour scheme.
They use silk threads and charms and buttons throughout. Have fun embellishing your pillows.
37 x 37 Each one of these can be purchased singly in a kit, which includes the fabric, the wool thread, the wool backing, the buttons, and Perle Cotton for finishing into a pincushion, fob or flower. I have also stitched one on 40 ct with Tudor Silk and use it faithfully as my scissors fob.

This little set of Tag Trios was done in the French Industrial theme of Numero….. once I get an idea it seems I go with it, till I am not inspired any more it seems…… but this is one of my more favourite themes. One uses very few colours to get the look and when done in greys and blacks it stands out nicely.
This one is called Pins and Needles and is a pin keep. All 3 pieces, Scissors & Threads are filled with stuffing and attached to a grey tag board built for the theme by scrapbooking brads.

The pattern is stitched in 2 different colour ways, White Winter and Au Natuarle. Most of the motifs are the same, just a few motifs didn't translate to a more primitive nature on the Au Naturale and I redesigned a few to match. Mostly the motifs are the same though just all the colour choices are different. On both charts the border is leaf stitched in Gloriana Threads Lorikeet Wool. In the white winter the Antique White linen uses Gentle Art and Weeks Dye Works colours along with some lovely Accentuate, Bijoux & Kreinik Metallics for that nice bling. In the Au Naturale Gentle Art and Weeks Dye Works colours are used, but no metallics. A thread pack is available for each colour way.

39 x 143 This is a mini version of the Quaker themed Stitches series piece. The mini uses DMC floss and one length of Gloriana Threads Bellagio.

125 x 96 My Story is a treasure for stitchers who enjoy the journey as much as, or more than, the destination. My Story is a set of 3 samplers side by side depicting a sampling of myself, or in this case you! It is a piece that encourages you to personalize it. At a shop on Oahu, Hawaii they did this piece as a class and it was so lovely to see the personalization that each member of the class had done. In the middle they put motifs and words that were meaningful to them. Whether it was a dog or a favourite flower - they turned out marvelous.
Although I did this to represent myself; I think that I am pretty common, we all love our stitching, have our faith, our home, friends and family, this is our human bond and it ties us together.
116 x 102 My Story Sampler was a pleasure to design and somehow I wasn't finished with it when I was done and thus My Storybook was a good match. I ended up writing a poem and built a needlebook to match it. The needlebook opens to hold several pairs of scissors, and has a tiny pincushion and needleholder inside. It will easily fit and hold many needlework tools for each time you stitch.

35 x 354 This long and thin sampler came to be because I love short fun rows! I also love the old English font. This was a delight to stitch and worked up much quicker than I thought it would. My stitcher stitched it a second time and we framed one and finsihed one into a rolled up sampler like they would have long ago. Olde Colonial made a love box for the piece and it hold the smalls (Royalty ABC Accessories) and the rolled up sampler. Either way to display is lovely. There is an embellishment pkg. with the silk threads and Bijoux used in the pattern along with the 2 scroll wooden ends to make for a bell pull finish.

A fabric cut of 32 ct Zweigart Lilac - a generous cut would be 10 1/2 x 27 to fit all these smalls. A layout is given within the chart. the chart includes the instructions to stitch each item and then finish each item. Included is a Lavender Bag, stacked Needle cushions, a double sided scissor fob, and a tiny empty spool pincushion. I made the scissors fob into a sliding fob. I made the Thistle themed sweet bag to hold lavender but this past summer (2017) my daughter got married in Scotland. I made the lavender bag with their initials on it and the place and date. "I have stitched a little bag as a memento, of your special day and I hope that you can fill your bag with great little bits that remind you of the commitment you make to each other as you sew your lives together. I have given you a start and have placed 3 little thistle pin pillows inside – to remind you of the things needed for a happy marriage -one for love, for kindness, for forgiveness- I could have said health, wealth and happiness but somehow love, kindness and forgiveness and a very hearty dose of humour have made your Dad’s and my marriage one that we treasure."

It is much more beautiful in person, I truly enjoyed stitching it, to stitch with in the circles and still keep the stitch was a challenge and I learned some new pulled work stitches like Greek Cross which I enjoyed. 38 x 38 each x 2 These little seasonal stackers were built out of the Once Upon a Tree pattern. Biscornus were the rage at the time and I enjoyed making a 'stack of seasonal items that could sit by my computer and give me a smile as I worked. Each pattern is stitched twice and put together separately, then stacked one on top of the other with a ribbon holding them together. A fun little way to enjoy each season. The pattern comes with the 1 yard of silk floss & 6 buttons necessary to complete into the biscornus. It does not include the DMC floss that compliments the overdyed floss that is used in each season.
